Hi Graham,

Sorry not to have gotten back sooner. I would not have the engine completely disassembled and checked. They are extremely tough motors on the bottom end and you will probably find little wrong that would keep it from good service.( I have one almost worn out with very noisy pistons that still runs great after it warms up.) Tell the mechanic to pull the head and have a look before going further into it. I would think that he will find the head gasket ruptured between 2 and 3 cylinders.
