Effect of Low Compression on MPG 700 1989

Thank you.
Presssure testing was done by the Volvo Main Agent for this area so I assume it was by the book, and it has been done elsewhere with very similar results.

Results were in MPa (Psi)

COLD
0.75 (108)
0.62 (90)
0.62 (90)
0.82 (119)

HOT
0.72 (104)
0.68 (99)
0.68 (99)
0.80 (116)

I understand the spec is 9-11, bar 0.9 - 1.1 Mpa (130.5-159.5 Psi)
and all cylinders should be within 2Bar 0.2Mpa (29 psi)
So they just fit within the 2 bar criteria but are a long way down.
The engine is being stripped at a reputable shop as we speak so I should know more on the cause soon.

But I take your point about the timing belt, no one has mentioned that before.
Big Harry says it is all down to the head gasket and needing a valve job.

Graham
