Testing for Spark 200 1979

Hi there,

When you had the spark plug out, did you notice whether it was smelling of gas? Was it dry? If it was wet, see what Bob Haire wrote up at the top of this thread. Too much fuel washes away the seal at the piston rings, and you may need to get a half-teaspoon of oil into each cylinder and try again.

On the other hand, if it was dry, you may have fuel pumps but no fuel to the injectors because of a gummed up fuel distributor. To test, enable the pumps using the jumper, loosen the large rubber boot between the air flow meter and the throttle body, reach in and pick up the airflow plate with thumb and forefinger. You should hear the fuel sing out of the injectors. If you found the rubber boot loose, why then, you've found the trouble.
