I took the fuel filter off and stuck a bit of fuel hose on the fuel line coming into the filter and stuck the other end into a bottle and cranked the engine. Fuel poured in as long as it was turning over. The pumps are indeed fine. Then I tested the spark with each wire just to be sure the distributor cap and rotor were properly working. All wires had good bright spark. Then I pulled the plugs before putting the oil in and they were a bit wet with gas and smelled gassy. They were not soaked and dripping with gas. I figure the exhaust stroke while cranking likely dried it up a bit.
Okay, I then tried the Bob Haire thing with a dollop of oil. Actually used a syringe to get the oil in there. I let the oil sit about 3 hours thinking that would help. Unfortunately, no joy when I cranked it. Hmmm. I have spark. Pumps.
Fuel. Help me Art Benstein!! Again, it seems that the fact that the car just suddenly decided not to start after sitting a few hours ought to be a hint, but I cannot figure it out. I need to find all the ground wires and check them all again, I guess. This 2.1 CIS shouldn't be this difficult. Something basic. Is there some kind of sensor on the engine for this model that perhaps came umplugged and would cause this? I haven't checked that yet.
