Klaus, thanks for the thoughts. I am not all that impressed with climate control on my S70. It's great when it works, of course, but my experience has been that it's broken more often than not. I keep getting the two amber lights blinking. The system usually works ok, but now and again it gets stuck in full hot on the driver's side until I "reboot" the car. It's been like that since new. Got repaired several times under warranty and each time after a while it would do it again. Now that there is no warranty to pay for those expensive servo motor replacements I just live with the way it is. If I had simple manual temperature control I would not be having these problems. In fact, when the thing goes completely I am thinking I will replace the stupid thing with a manual system (if possible). As for turbos, I have only owned one car with turbo and it ran great until it didn't and then it cost lots of money to fix. My need is for simple, cheap, reliable and safe transportation for my wife and kids. I am not looking for extras, especially if they have potential to present a repair bill. Also, my wife was very happy with a n/a 940 as far as "performance". She is not into fast cars. She likes the torque at low speed and the durability. She is not a "car" person, rather she treats them as necessary evil :) So the simpler her car is the better. She does like the seat warmers, though.
I have a '95 850 Turbo wagon to look at tomorrow. Supposed to be loaded with options (yawn), have about 145K miles and in good shape. We'll see. BTW, the owner says odometer stopped working about 45K miles ago, but since he has electronic trip and info computer he says the car can be taken to a dealer and the actual mileage read via computer. Do you know if that's true? It's a '95, so no OBDII.
Also saw a '97 855 n/a and liked it, though it's in a bit of a rough cosmetic shape. It is so much like my S70, that I felt immediately at home in it. Sounds the same, has better brakes than mine (mine are still original rotors from '98 and time to change them), sellers says A/C works, but no way to check since it's below freezing here and I don't think A/C will kick in at these ambient temps. Anyway, the price is under $2K, car has 170K miles on it and mechanically sounds real tight. I am almost sold on it, but will look at the turbo wagon tomorrow. Still looking for that nice 940...
Thanks!
