I cleaned the pulley, but even so, finding these marks is eating my lunch. Would I expect mine to be the two notches on the top of two adjacent teeth? Not seeing them, hard as I've tried.
As I mentioned in initial post, I was foolish enough to think that the belt tension, with camshafts locked, would allow me to loosen the crank nut. Something snapped, and I later noticed the left tensioner ear was bent, and the belt was slightly slackened between crank pulley and intake pulley. Problem is, I don't know how much the crank may have moved when this occurred, and without discernible marks on the pulley, I'm flying without instruments here.
Thinking I need to find the proper crank position (camshafts locked, belt off) via the piston top-dead-center method. One of the pistons at TDC corresponds to the proper crank position (i.e. where the crank mark lines up with engine mark) with respect to the camshafts, is that correct? Which piston? I will remove all spark plugs, place a dowel in the proper cylinder, and slowly turn the crank to piston TDC (which should be clockwise on the crank, since it would have slipped in the counterclockwise direction, during attempt to loosen nut).
Does this all make sense? if so, please advise which cylinder I should focus on.
MANY THANKS!
