rpm increases, but burn rate does not (linear)
No! It's NOT linear by any means.
If you have a small intake charge, molecules are scattered around the combustion chamber and you have a slow reaction -- also, the pressure is much lower. If you have a full intake charge, the burn happens much quicker.
You're not going to get to 6000 rpm under load without a lot of intake charge, so that implies a relatively fast burn rate. Beyond a certain speed you don't need to light off the charge earlier to keep up with rpm.
