I don't doubt any of your technical details but there's no reason why a solid lifter engine can't be "quiet"

If that was the case, then why where hydraulic lifters invented. Anything remotely performance in a solid cam profile is noisy. Volvo didn't get good HP/Litre by using gentle(quiet) cam profiles. Now if your talking about an old Vauxall, Wolseley or Zephyr, etc., they are quiet because they do have very gentle profiles.
