My son and I have been having this on again, off again debate about how much power his ’69 Amazon really needs and how best to get there. We have been all around the mulberry bush during this discussion, everything from super/turbocharging the B20 to a B230 turbo, with just about everything in between. (The car currently has a 1974 B20B which vlvworld suggests generates 97 hp at 5800 rpm.)
In an attempt to move our discussion from the right side of our brains to the left, I have been generating some speed vs. hp curves. My objective is to show that infinite amounts of power are not required to get speeds well in excess of what I like to see him driving at. One of the pieces of info I’m missing in my calculations is the drag coefficient for a 122. I have been using .5 as a default value but I’ve no idea of whether this is wildly optimistic or in the ball park. FWIW a Hummer H2 has a drag coefficient of .57.
Anybody have a number they can trace to a reliable source? Or a better gut feel than mine? Maybe some of you racer types?
