Then the DCOE's went on with the 32mm chokes, big improvement. ried the 36mm chokes and it didn't work well, so I put the 32's back in.
There's something wrong with that.
My first personal experience was with a borrowed pair of 45mm DHLA's. They came with a set of 34mm chokes & a set of 40's. My engine was 2131, the head was good, but not as good as an R-sport head & my cam wasn't all that big, 240 degrees@.050" & only 0.276" lobe lift. I thought the obvious choice was the 34mm chokes, but after sorting them out I then tried the 40mm chokes & the thing excepted them with ease. You could still flatten the throttle at idle in any gear with the big chokes & it would except all that air with no drama.
I replaced those DHLA's with a pair of 45mm DCOE's & the chokes that they cam with were bored out to 41.5mm, amazingly, I had no problem with them either even though the chokes are just bored straight through & have no venturi. After that I found a good pair of 48mm DHLA's, but also my head got better, the cam became huge & I moved away from 4-2-1 to 4-1 headers.
