I'm going to have to spend more time with that article to puzzle my way through the Norwegian.
Hi Bob;
Here's a poor attempt to translate the first paragraph on the Norwegian web site Phil found. All the usual disclaimers apply.
"The ST 257 came with two different engines, a Perkins 4/99 diesel and the more common Volvo B18C petrol engine. The petrol engine is probably slightly different from its siblings produced for the PV and the Amazon, because of the centrifugal regulator. If you want to use a car engine as a replacement you will have to install an electric regulator (so-called Cruise Control). The models that came with Perkins did originally have plus to ground, but the offerings that came with Volvo engines had minus to ground. The diesel has the regulator integrated in the diesel pump, whereas the petrol engine has its regulator on the left side by the radiator. The RPM should be checked once in a while, as wear in the centrifugal regulator may greatly change the engine speed. For the petrol engines you just hook up a regular tachometer, but for the diesels you will need to borrow special tools. Car equipment dealers will occasionally have cheap diesel tachs for permanent installation."
Regards,
Erling.
PS: Heard from Niklas yet?
